Ellis County Sheriff
The Ellis County Sheriff's Office wants to remind residents of the special care their outdoor pet needs during the cold weather.
State law requires that all pets who spend time outside have access to adequate shelter and fresh water.
"The best place for our pets is in our home but we know that is not always possible," said Sheriff Scott Braun.
"We encourage all pet owners to take appropriate steps to protect those animals that may be left outside for long periods of time. Our office is prepared to investigate reports of animal neglect throughout this cold spell.
A few tips to meet the cold weather requirements include maintaining adequate shelter - like a doghouse with dry bedding such as straw, or a structure such as a garage or barn, and food and fresh water.
