On Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Ellis County Sheriff's Office will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

This bi-annual event allows for the public to anonymously dispose of old, unused, unwanted, or no longer needed medications.

The event will be held in the north parking lot of the Ellis County Law Enforcement Center, 105 W. 12th St., Hays.

The Ellis County Sheriff's Office is encouraging the public to remove unused and unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.

Items that will be accepted are tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs.

Prescription medications can be disposed of in the original container or placed in a Ziploc bag.

Liquids (including intravenous solutions), syringes and other sharps such as diabetic needles and Epi-Pens, as well as illicit drugs will not be accepted.

For more information, contact Detective Brian Shannon, Ellis County Drug Enforcement Unit, at 785-621-1668.
