The seventh-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team returns to Gross Memorial Coliseum this weekend to open the 2024-25 conference schedule. The Tigers will open league play Thursdaywhen they host Central Missouri beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Tigers are off to a 7-0 start to the season, tied for the fourth-best start in program history. It is the third time in the last four seasons that FHSU has opened the year with seven consecutive victories. FHSU is one of 19 remaining undefeated teams in NCAA Division II.

The Tigers aren't just winning this season - they are dominating opponents. The Tigers are second in the MIAA and 17th in Division II with an average scoring margin of +22.9. The FHSU defense ranks sixth in DII in field goal percentage defense, limiting teams to just 30.5 percent from the floor.

Fort Hays State is dishing out 18.6 assists per game, the most in the MIAA and 10th-most in DII. Brooke Loewe is 10th individually in the country with an average of 6.4 assists per game, which is on pace to break the school's all-time record for assist average in a season (Jaden Hobbs, 6.0 a/g, 2020-21).

Katie DeGarmo&nbsp;currently ranks second amongst active DII players with 1,837 points, 1,016 rebounds and 130 games played. She became the second player in program history to reach 1,000 points and rebounds last week against Tabor.

Olivia Hollenbeck&nbsp;is leading the MIAA with an average of 17.7 points per game and 3.14 steals per contest, which ranks 22nd in Division II. The graduate student from Lincoln, Neb. has hit 68.5 percent of her field goal attempts this season, third-best in the country.

Talexa Weeter&nbsp;has scored in double figures in each of the last five games. The sophomore is averaging 12.4 points in just 18.0 minutes per contest this year.

Ellie Stearns&nbsp;knocked down four 3-pointers in Saturday's win over Colorado School of Mines, tying her career high and setting a new single game high for the Tigers this season. The junior guard is averaging 6.3 points per game this season after averaging 4.2 points per contest across her first two seasons in a Tiger uniform.

Kate Dilsaver&nbsp;has more than doubled her average offensive output this season, averaging 9.0 points per contest after putting up 3.97 points per night across her first three seasons in Hays. The senior matched her career high with seven rebounds in the overtime win over Regis on Friday.

Central Missouri holds a 24-18 lead in the all-time series, while the Tigers are 10-4 at home against the Jennies since the series began in 1993. Fort Hays State holds a one-game winning streak in the series after snapping a five-game skid thanks to a gritty 65-63 win over the Jennies in the quarterfinals of the 2024 MIAA Women's Basketball Championship, presented by Southern Bank (3/8/24).

UCM is one of just two schools to hold a winning record against FHSU during the Talia Kahrs&nbsp;era. The Jennies are 2-1 during that span, while Missouri Western is 2-0. The Jennies have won two-straight road games against FHSU after the Tigers had won eight in a row at home against UCM from 2011 until 2022.The Tigers and Jennies have twice played on this date, with FHSU winning 95-50 at home in 2012 before UCM won 72-51 in 2013 in Warrensburg. Coincidentally, both games happen to be the largest margin of victory by either team in series history.

Playing the Jennies seems to bring out the best of DeGarmo, who averages 16.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 10 career games against UCM. She has surpassed 20 points in each of the last four meetings, recording double-doubles in three of those four games. She's scored in double figures in nine of her 10 games against the Jennies and totaled a career-high nine assists in 2023 and recorded a career-best seven steals against UCM in 2022.

Hollenbeck averages 9.2 points per game in 11 career matchups against UCM, including reaching double figures in each of the last two matchups. Loewe averages 4.8 points per game in six tries against the Jennies, including a career-high 17 points at home against UCM last season.

The Jennies are 7-3 so far this season after going 1-1 over the weekend at the Hoops in Hawaii Classic. UCM is 3-0 in true road games, defeating MSU Moorhead, Augustana and Hawaii Pacific on the road. Through games played Monday (12/2) UCM has played more games than all but three teams in Division II (Gannon 10-1, Missouri Southern 7-4, Dominican 6-5). The Jennies lead the MIAA and rank eighth in DII with an average of just 12.0 turnovers per game.

Reese Schaaf ranks second in the MIAA behind Hollenbeck with an average of 17.6 while she leads the league with 9.4 rebounds per night. The junior Drury transfer is one off the national lead with an MIAA-best four double-doubles. Lauren Frost leads the team and ranks fifth in the MIAA with an average of 4.0 assists per contest.

Looking ahead, Fort Hays State will wrap up the weekend on Saturday, December 7 when it hosts Washburn at 2 p.m. before traveling a mere 3,636 miles to play Truman State and Quincy in the Big Island Holiday Classic in Hilo, Hawaii December 19-20.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Pop Isaacs helped unranked Creighton upset No. 1 Kansas 76-63 on Wednesday night, scoring a season-high 27 points and matching his career high with six 3-pointers.

Kansas cut a 13-point deficit to one early in the second half, but Isaacs hit back-to-back 3s to rebuild the lead as the Bluejays (6-3) pulled away for their second straight victory over a top-ranked opponent. They knocked off Connecticut 85-66 in Omaha in February.

The Jayhawks (7-1) lost a regular-season game against an unranked nonconference opponent for the first time in three years. Creighton had been in 16 straight Associated Press polls before dropping out this week following losses in three of its previous four games.

Students rushed the court at the final buzzer as flames shot out of the top of the goal standards.

Isaacs’ shooting display overshadowed what was supposed to be the featured matchup between two of the nation’s best big men, the 7-foot-1 Ryan Kalkbrenner and the Jayhawks’ 7-2 Hunter Dickinson.

Kalkbrenner, who had missed the Bluejays' previous game because of a lower-body injury, and Steven Ashworth each scored 17 points.

The Jayhawks struggled offensively and never led. Dajuan Harris had 15 points and AJ Storr and Zeke Mayo added 12 apiece for Kansas.

Kansas: The Jayhawks could never find a rhythm offensively. Dickinson had difficulty getting touches and took only four shots, making two.

Creighton: When the Bluejays make their 3-pointers, they’re tough to beat. They came into the game shooting 32% from distance but were 12 of 29 against the Jayhawks.

Zyanna Walker led the Wildcats (8-1) with 16 points, matching her career high, to go with a career-high 10 assists, four rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Taryn Sides scored 12 points and Jaelyn Glenn and Kennedy Taylor had 11 each.

Kiyley Flowers had nine points to pace the Panthers (2-4), who shot 28%.

K-State shot 54.5% and was 11 of 20 from 3-point range, led by Sides going 4 of 4.

Walker had 11 points at the half as the Wildcats shot 57% to race to a 41-19 lead as the Panthers shot 29%.

After three wins last week, the Fort Hays State women's basketball team again climbed in the latest release of both national polls, moving to No. 7 in the WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches Poll and sliding up to a tie for No. 14 in the D2CSC National Media Poll released Tuesday.

Fort Hays State (7-0)&nbsp;leapt five spots in the coaches poll, earning 408 points in the balloting process after picking up 299 points one week ago. The Tigers are still the highest-ranked team from the MIAA, but FHSU is followed closely by No. 8 Pittsburg State and No. 9 Northwest Missouri State. Only one other league has three teams in the top 10, while the MIAA is the only conference with three teams in the top 17.

This is the seventh time in program history that the Tigers have been ranked No. 7 in the coaches poll. FHSU was last seventh in the final poll of the 2021-22 season. The Tigers are 10-0 all-time when ranked seventh in the country. The Tigers have been listed in 107 weekly releases of the WBCA Coaches Poll during their DII era.

🏀 Hays High girls' ninth in KBCA preseason poll

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Dana Dimel, who spent 20 years as a part of Bill Snyder’s K-State coaching staff, passed away Tuesday at the age of 62, his family announced. He is survived by his wife, Julie, and children, Winston and Josey.

Dimel, who spent the 2024 season on former Wildcat assistant Bret Bielema’s staff at Illinois, served three stints on Snyder's staff at K-State following an All-America playing career as an offensive tackle for the Wildcats from 1984-86.

He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant in Manhattan in 1987-88 leading into eight seasons (1989-96) as an assistant coach. He returned to K-State for one season in 2005 and then returned to K-State for the third time and spent nine seasons (2009-17) as the program's offensive coordinator and running backs/tight ends coach.

Overall Dimel was a part of 12 bowl teams during 19 seasons in Manhattan. The Wildcats posted an 11-win season (2012) with a Big 12 Championship, two 10-win campaigns (1995 and 2011) and five nine-win seasons (1993, 1994, 1996, 2014, and 2016) during that span, and finished in the top-25 of the BCS and CFP rankings on three occasions – 2011 (No. 8 BCS), 2012 (No. 5 BCS), and 2014 (No. 11 CFP).

Dimel, a Columbus, Ohio, native, compiled the most wins of any active offensive coordinator in college football from 2011-17 (61) and was a part of eight straight bowl appearances.&nbsp;Overall, in his 32 seasons as a head or assistant coach, Dimel mentored 37 players who went on to play in the NFL.

In addition to his time at K-State, Dimel had successful head coaching stops at Wyoming (1997-1999), Houston (2000-2002) and UTEP (2018-2023).

Fresh off the school's first ever appearance in the state title game, the Hays High Indians has eight players players named to the All-Western Athletic Conference football team. Six are on the first team and two on the second team.

Junior running back Holden Lind and sophomore offensive lineman Gus Corsair are on the first team offense. The Indians have three linebackers named to the first team defense in sophomore Tanner Geist and seniors Wyatt Kirkpatrick and Dalton Mayers. Senior Cooper Lindenmeyer was named first team defensive back.

🏈 HHS has eight named to All-Western Athletic Conference team

DENVER (AP) — Jameis Winston had a night to remember — and one to forget.

Ja’Quan McMillian&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/NFL/status/1863804452547019180">returned an interception 44 yards</a>&nbsp;for a game-sealing touchdown with 1:48 remaining, and Denver spoiled career-best performances by Winston and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jerry-jeudy-browns-broncos-jameis-winston-5b817a915356269d9451a0aff4e98c65">ex-Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy</a>&nbsp;in beating the Cleveland Browns 41-32 on Monday.

The good for Winston: He threw for a&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/OptaSTATS/status/1863813213382410641">franchise-record 497 yards</a>&nbsp;and four touchdowns.

The not-so-good: He tossed two interceptions that Denver returned for scores. The Broncos had three picks for 171 interception return yards against him.

“It was my fault," Winston said. "I’ve got to play better.”

It was fully reminiscent of his best — and worst — year in 2019 with Tampa Bay, when he led the NFL in yards (5,109) and was second in TD passes (33) but also led the league in picks (30).

“I know I’m better than this,” Winston said. “I’m just praying for the Lord to deliver me from pick-6s. That's not me. Phenomenal game on offense, do some great things, but I mess it up.”

Meanwhile, Jeudy had nine catches for 235 yards — the most in NFL history by a receiver against his former team — and a TD. Jeudy played his first four seasons with Denver and was booed every time he caught the ball.

“They only boo you,” Jeudy said, "when they know there’s something great in you.”

<a href="https://twitter.com/Broncos/status/1863774988890771935">Nik Bonitto intercepted Winston and took it 71 yards to the house</a>&nbsp;late in the second quarter. Winston became the first NFL quarterback to throw for 400 or more yards with four or more TD passes and two pick-6s.

Bo Nix finished with 294 yards passing, including a gorgeous deep ball from his own end zone that&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/NFL/status/1863787110505025746">Marvin Mims Jr. hauled in</a>&nbsp;for a 93-yard touchdown. Nix also threw two picks.

The Broncos (8-5) enter their bye week in the seventh and final playoff spot in the AFC. Denver has a 76% probability of making the postseason, according to the NFL. The team hasn't been in the playoffs since winning the Super Bowl after the 2015 season.

“It wasn’t perfect, by any means, but we were able to finish,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said. ”Big plays — the game was full of them."

Winston surpassed the Browns record of 457 yards passing set by Josh McCown in 2015 against Baltimore. He threw a&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Browns/status/1863788285149258134">70-yard TD pass to Jeudy</a>&nbsp;and a pair of scores to&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/espn/status/1863778716708479046">tight end David Njoku</a>&nbsp;in falling to 2-3 as a starter for the Browns (3-9) since replacing an injured Deshaun Watson.

Cleveland led 32-31 on Winston’s 5-yard TD pass to Nick Chubb when Nix drove the Broncos to the Browns 9. On fourth-and-1, Payton lined up to go for it but changed his mind after a timeout. Wil Lutz kicked a go-ahead 27-yard field goal with 2:54 remaining.

Winston and the Browns had plenty of time to drive for a winning score, but Winston's throw to Elijah Moore was late and McMillian jumped the route. He fell to the turf untouched after making the catch, got up and sprinted to the end zone.

“The fact they did it twice was kind of crazy,” Nix said of the interception returns. “I'm over there sitting, the benches have the heaters over there, and I don't even have to move. It's pretty nice for the offense when they bail us out like that.”

Jeudy, a first-round draft pick in 2020, was traded to Cleveland this spring after an up-and-down four seasons with Denver.&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/espn/status/1863788948822089884">He paused at the goal line</a>&nbsp;before falling backward into the end zone on his long TD catch. He also caught a 2-point conversion to pull the Browns to 28-25.

“We had a plan going into it in terms of trying to get him open. I thought the plan was solid,” Cleveland coach Kevin Stefanski said. "Jerry executed the plan really well. Got him open. Jameis made some throws. It’s hard in the losing effort to feel good about anything.”

The play by Jeudy came just 11 seconds after Nix threw a laser from about 4 yards deep in his end zone to Mims at around the 42. Mims caught it in stride, raced to the end zone and jumped into the stands to celebrate.

The Broncos relied on their running game in the first half, with Javonte Williams and&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Broncos/status/1863772321594388683">Michael Burton</a>&nbsp;scoring short TDs. It was Burton’s second TD of his 10-year career.

The Browns fell to 4-13 in the Mile High City. Dustin Hopkins missed a 47-yard field goal to the left on Cleveland’s opening drive.

Nix, who’s earned the NFL Rookie of the Week three consecutive times, threw his first interception since Nov. 3. Chased by Myles Garrett, Nix tried to force a pass to Tony Franklin over the middle. Denzel Ward reached in and deflected the ball into the air and it was caught by Greg Newsome II.

Winston and Jeudy got rolling early with a 44-yard completion on the Browns' first offensive play.

“That wasn’t supposed to go to me,” Jeudy explained.

Winston delivered a fiery&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Browns/status/1863749572209561676">pregame oration to his teammates</a>, yelling, “It’s got to come from your heart. I don’t care about no Mile High. I care about how the Browns get down.”

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Achor Achor scored 21 points to lead six in double figures and a late flurry of 3-pointers gave Kansas State the school scoring record in a 120-73 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday.

The Wildcats scored their last 21 points on seven 3-pointers and finished with 21 3-pointers — the second most in school history — in 40 attempts.

A 3-pointer by Taj Manning gave K-State 117 points with 2 minutes to go, breaking the school record of 116 points set in a win over Texas last season. Dug McDaniel added a 3-pointer a minute later for the final score.

Led by Achor, Kansas State (6-2) had 68 bench points. McDaniel had 18 points and 10 assists and David Castillo, who made five 3-pointers, had 17 points. Among the starters, David N’Guessan had 17 points, Brendan Hausen 14 and Max Jones 12.

Chop Paljor scored 15, Dante Sawyer 12 and Kyle Brown 10 for the Lions (1-8).

Kansas State shot 62% overall and 53% from 3-point distance. The Wildcats had only 36 points in the paint but made 19 of their 25 two-point tries.

The Wildcats turned six UAPB turnovers into 16 points and led 30-11 with 12 1/2 minutes left in the first half. Hausen scored nine points and N’Guessan seven in the outburst.

K-State scored 54 points in the first 15 minutes, shooting 57% overall and making 9 of 16 3-pointers in that span. The Wildcats led 54-24 with 5 minutes left and 63-33 at halftime. Castillo had 11 points and Achor scored 10.

🏀 K- State buries Arkansas-Pine Bluff with school-record 120 points

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Women's Wrestling had a strong showing at its home tournament on Sunday (Dec. 1) in the second annual FHSU Bob Smith Women's Open.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/isabella-cross/8277">Isabella Cross</a>&nbsp;(110),&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/lindsey-lopez/8284">Lindsey Lopez</a>&nbsp;(117),&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/lexie-lopez/8283">Lexie Lopez</a>&nbsp;(124),&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/jamie-laswell/8282">Jamie Laswell</a>&nbsp;(131),&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/nichole-moore/8375">Nichole Moore</a>&nbsp;(138), and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/hailey-conley/8276">Hailey Conley</a>&nbsp;(207) of Fort Hays State all won their respective classes, while 20 Tigers placed overall.

The Tigers had 10 finalists in the tournament spread over eight of the 10 classes. FHSU had teammates face off in the finals at 131 (Laswell and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/amanda-jaeger/8280">Amanda Jaeger</a>) and 207 (Conley and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/grace-johns/8281">Grace Johns</a>). The Tigers had 19 of their 20 placers reach the championship semifinals.

At 110, Cross recorded four-straight tech falls to win her class. Three of those were by shutout scores of 10-0, including the semifinal and final. She yielded only two points on the day in her quarterfinal match that had a 12-2 result. She defeated Rylee Balcazar of Chadron State in the final.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/lindsey-lopez/8284">Lindsey Lopez</a>&nbsp;recorded a tech fall, a fall, and a pair of decisions to win at 117. The tech fall and one of her decisions were shutouts, but her championship match was a thriller as she scored two points in the waning seconds to flip a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 win over Jaia Ashley of Schreiner University.

At 124, No. 10 ranked&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/lexie-lopez/8283">Lexie Lopez</a>&nbsp;posted a 4-0 day with three-straight tech falls and then a fall in the championship match. Two of her tech falls were 10-0 shutouts, while the other was a 13-2 spread. She pinned Kira Bufford of Schreiner in the final in 1:37.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/jamie-laswell/8282">Jamie Laswell</a>&nbsp;did not yield a point all day in her 4-0 performance to win at 131. She posted a 27-second fall in her first match, then scored 10-0 tech falls in her final three matches of the day. Her championship match was against teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/amanda-jaeger/8280">Amanda Jaeger</a>, who had a similar result path on her way to the final with a fall and a pair of shutout tech falls before meeting Laswell in the final.

At 138,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/nichole-moore/8375">Nichole Moore</a>&nbsp;had three-straight shutout wins en route to the final. Her first two were tech falls by scores of 12-0 and 11-0 and then she had an 8-0 decision in the semifinal. Moore avenged a loss to Corrie Williams of Adams State from the dual the night before in the final. Moore won the championship on criteria in a 2-2 tie.

At 207,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/hailey-conley/8276">Hailey Conley</a>&nbsp;went 3-0 to claim the title of her class. She recorded a pair of falls to reach the final and then took a 7-1 decision in the final over teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/grace-johns/8281">Grace Johns</a>, who also had a pair of falls to reach the final before running into Conley.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/arianna-ortiz/8214">Arianna Ortiz</a>&nbsp;(103) and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-wrestling/roster/isabella-renfro/8286">Isabella Renfro</a>&nbsp;(180) also notched second-place finishes for the Tigers. Ortiz had a tech fall and fall to reach the final, where she lost by fall to Odelia Lopez of Schreiner. Renfro blitzed through her first three opponents of the day with a pair of fast falls and a shutout tech fall before losing by fall to Nina Sandoval of Minot State.

Aside from the 10 top-two placing Tigers, FHSU had four third-place finishers, three fourth-place finishers, two fifth finishers, and one sixth-place finisher.
